One of the U.S. Army’s “Big Picture” TV episodes, in the WWII “Army in Action” series, “The Slumbering Giant Awakens” depicts the battle of supply and logistics won by the United States Army in 1943. Also depicted in this film are the tactical operations in 1943 in North Africa, where the Germans are defeated in Tunisia. There is also coverage of the Pacific, the Aleutians including the invasion of Attu, Australian troops fighting in New Guinea and the assault on the Solomon Islands, and more. Includes images of mass production of many commodities, harvesting and packaging of foodstuffs and food, shipment across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, etc. The film ends with the invasion of Sicily by 160,000 Allied troops.
