Produced in 1963, “Operations in Public Fallout Shelters” is a heavily dramatized Civil Defense film that demonstrates how a public fallout shelter is supposed to function after a nuclear attack. This scenario takes place in a fictional any town called “Middlebury”.
The story goes like this: For whatever reason the original manager of shelter number 126, Bill Floyd, hasn’t made it into the shelter. His back-up Jerry Bates must assume command. With the help of Gil (played by Anthony Zerbe) and others, Bates quickly gains confidence and whips the shelter into shape. His one early challenge is to obtain baby food for an infant in the shelter. He sends out a search party to the store above the shelter to find the precious food.
