Made in the 1983 as part of the Air Force’s internal communications program, AIR FORCE NOW was a morale-boosting news magazine that was widely shown around the world on military bases. This issue #223 begins with an historical look at the Berlin Air Lift and the USAF’s crucial role in defeating the Soviet blockade.
At 6:45, the film presents a look at the historical events of 1783 when the U.S. Constitution was created. 1983 was the 200th anniversary of the creation of the document.
At 7:50, the film shows Air Force recruits being dressed down at a base in San Antonio, Texas as part of the beginning of indoctrination. The drill instructor is shown yelling in the faces of recruits. This is not the 1960s and the Vietnam War is in the past, so all the recruits are volunteers not draftees, so this is a bit of a “kinder, gentler” approach. At 10:40, women USAF recruits are shown. This is definitely *not* “Full Metal Jacket”!
At 12:00, the Military Training Instructor School is shown, where future D.I.s are shown how to train recruits.
