19694 ” BOSS OF THE BULLDOZERS ” 1946 CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. D6, D7, D8 BULLDOZER PROMO FILM

This black & white educational/promotional film is about the medium Caterpillar tractors D6, D7, and D8 models, most often configured as bulldozers (but also sold in other versions). This is circa 1946. The D6 was also available in a military version classified as the SNL G152. The D6 started out in 1935 as the RD6, fitted with a 3-cylinder 45 hp D6600 engine. The RD6 was renamed D6 in 1937, and updated in 1941 with a D4600 engine of 55 hp (drawbar) and in 1947, with a D318 engine of 66 hp. The D7 and D8 were first manufactured in 1938.

Titles: Caterpillar Tractor Co. presents Boss of the Bulldozers (:06-:23). A truck drives a bulldozer down the street. A bulldozer is backed off a ramp onto the ground. The bulldozer drives through brush towards a tree. The bulldozer drives behind a truck across dirt, it then backs up quite quickly. A bulldozer, a D6, pushes muddy dirt over. A D8 angles down the dirt. Dirt is pushed down a hill (:24-2:49). A D7 pushes down trees. Brush and trees fall over. The bulldozer pushes the dirt with a force. The dirt is pushed into the fill. The bulldozer pushes giant dirt piles over with ease (2:50-4:13). The bulldozer pushes dirt and moves at a slight angle. A bulldozer is shown from behind leaving a clean path behind it. A pile of dirt and a tree log are pushed over to the side. Brush, dirt, and small trees are pushed over. The dirt is moved with ease as the blade slices through. A bulldozer goes down a slight hill, pushing tons of dirt over. The road is starting to take shape (4:14-6:16). A bulldozer pushes tons of earth down a hillside. Everything is pushed as the bulldozer pushes forward. The strong blade is well braced to push through and show its power. Dirt is pushed in a few directions and then a big tree is toppled. Another bulldozer carries a steel rod, drops it in the dirt and then covers it. The driver adjusts the blade. Dirt i pushed over the hillside. The left side of the blade is lowered to match the right side, the driver pushes on. Dirt and brush is pushed over (6:17-9:34). Bulldozer goes down a hill, raises its blade to climb a steeper hill. The blade is dropped down, the driver looks down. Using a wrench, the driver adjusts the side of the bulldozer, on both sides. He removes a pin. The front of the bulldozer is removed. The D7 is brought to another blade to hook that one up. The driver uses a wrench (9:35-12:01). The bulldozer picks up the new blade, drops it as a test, and raises it again while turning the dozer. The bulldozer pushes through some dirt. The driver reverses the angle of the blade by hand. The dirt is pushes slowly to one side. A bulldozer pushes through dirt, brush, roots, and rock (12:02-14:47). The dirt is pushed high with the blade and constantly forward. The bulldozer continues to move forward. The bulldozer creates a small route to continue on. A small tree and dirt are pushed over. A large tree has its roots sliced on one side and then the other. The large tree is then pushed a few times before it finally topples over. Bulldozer pushes dirt out of the way as it climbs a hill. Bulldozers power through dirt and sand. Close on the Caterpillar logo on the front of one of the bulldozers as it pushes dirt over (14:48-17:29). End credits (17:30-17:38).
