One of a series of “Industry on Parade” films made by the National Association of Manufacturers, this film is about precise parts, how Lenox China plates are made, and how Renwal toy tow trucks are produced. This is circa the mid 1950s.
Opening: Industry on Parade: The Age of Precision (:06-:34). A jumbo jet takes off. A car drives. A washing machine. Machine parts. A packaging machine, printing presses, surgeons needle. A shilling. .040 thickness of worn shilling is explained and shown with dates and size as it gets smaller. A grinding machine. Cincinnati Milling and Manufacturing Factory. A machine turns. A man shaves a machine. Straight track is made. A tube is placed into a machine and a gauge is tested (:35-3:09). Two men work on different machine parts. A variety of instruments are used. A man checks the accuracy. He looks in a microscope. A man checks the gauges. A man looks into a microscope while seated. A machine at work. A train races by. A Message from Industry to You title card. A tank is being tested and races down a track (3:10-5:49). Title card: Progress in Pottery! Trenton, NJ, Lenox China Company. Men make fine china. Liquid clay hardens. A man makes the plate. The edges are trimmed and shaping of plate is complete. Plates are stacked to dry out. They are placed into setters while they go into the kilns. After that they are dipped into glaze. They are placed back into kilns along with the glaze and then decorated afterwards. Women work on the plates. A man works on the plate as the wheel revolves. A woman adds color enamel before the final trip to the kiln. A plate is set on a table (5:50-8:57). Title card: California, We’re Here! Los Angeles, CA. Lever Brothers Soap Company. People gather outside. Exterior of the vast tanks and pipes. Guests go inside and watch. People watch as boxes of product are placed into a helicopter. The Helicopter takes off. A woman sits with a child, a man looks at a young boy’s project (8:58-10:52). Title card: Torrent Of Toys! Renwal Factory in Minneola, NY. A man sits at a table making a model. A tow truck model lifts a toy car model. The toy tow truck is going to the engineer. Engineer looks at it. Women use the parts and put together the toys. Wheels and body together are bound by heat. Women put the trucks together and then box the finished product. A boy plays with a toy tow truck (10:53-13:26). End credits (13:27-13:36).
