19324 1972 CHEVROLET PICK-UP TRUCK vs. FORD MODELS CHEVY BLAZER GENERAL MOTORS PROMOTIONAL FILM

Made in 1972 for General Motors, this film shows the full line of Chevrolet pick-up trucks and gives salesmen and potential customers insight into the line’s durability and value. As the film states, almost 56% of Chevy trucks made in the 1950s were still in service in the early 1970s thanks to their rugged design. At 1:25, the Nationwide Consumer Institute tests the truck versus a comparable Ford pick-up. At 2:11 a demonstration of the double steel cab strength. At 2:28 the box wall of the inner truck bed wall is shown. At 3:15 the truck’s splash guard is shown. At 4:05 the shock absorber design is examined and then the exhaust system (4:38). At 4:43 the master brake cylinder and brakes are shown in head-to-head comparison. At 5:25 the disc braking systems are examined on a long, steep grade on Pike’s Peak, where they crush the rival drum brakes. At 7:25 a TV commercial excerpt shows how the suspension system limits vibration to the forward area of the truck. At 8:05 the Chevy stabilizer bar is shown. At 8;25 a Chevy truck pulls a huge 747 jet aircraft. At 8:58 Chevy trucks are shown on the ranch, in service delivering goods, and more.

At 9:56 the film has special information for Chevy personnel about the Chevy Blazer. The vehicle is compared to a 4-wheel drive rival — the Ford Bronco. The Blazer is equipped with truck components that give it an edge including in a tug-of-war at 11:30. At 11:55 the Blazer tows a trailer vs. the Bronco. At 12:18 the film shows the Blazer riding on a dirt road and off-road. At 12:50 a Camping and Trailering Guide magazine endorsement is mentioned. The interior of the vehicle is shown and then compared to the Bronco. At 14:10 the Blazer’s disc brakes are shown in action vs. the drum brakes on the Bronco, which drifts into danger. At 15:23 the convertible aspect of the vehicle is shown.
