19264 1972 CHEVROLET CAPRICE & CHEVY IMPALA INTERNAL SALESMAN TRAINING FILM

This film was created for sales personnel with Chevrolet and will take a look, in its first segment, at the 1972 Chevrolet Caprice. Caprice is a full-sized automobile which was manufactured from 1965 to 1996 model years. The film opens with the seal of the Nationwide Consumer Testing Institute Inc. (:25) and the Caprice driving on the road (:36). The distinctive grill and Caprice crest are pointed to (1:09) with a span of the interior (1:14). As it was meant to sit alongside fine cars, a special premium was placed on fine fabrics, quality of workmanship and durability (1:23). Seat durability testing is shown (1:29). The vehicle had a 121 and a ½ inch wheel base (1:39) and sat six passengers on full foam cushions (1:53). To keep road noise down, the double paneled roof with acoustically perforated headliner (2:08) is pointed to as well as the layers of sound insulation (2:18). In addition, a sound deadener seal is sprayed on metal parts (2:22). Other features include the full coiled springs at each wheel (2:52), long wheel base, and variable ratio power steering (3:03). A test follows showing the variable power steering made taking turns and parking easier (3:20). Also, standard is the power assisted braking and power front disk brakes (4:12). Temperature control was an available feature (4:45) and a test conducted in the Engineering room show the inside of the car maintains 72 degrees in either negative 20 degrees or well over a hundred degrees (4:52). The inner fenders (5:16), steel cargo guard (5:25) and steel side guard beams in all the doors are given a closer look (5:32). Another demonstration at the Safety Research and Development lab follows, showing the side guard beams added to occupant safety (5:43). This model also came with improved front bumpers with increased protection which came out a year ahead of the Federal mandate (6:14). A demonstration in which the reinforced bumper with strengthened mountings resisted damage follows (6:17). The battery is pointed to which came with side mountings that were sealed and prevented it from corrosion (6:40). This make also came with a concealed antenna embedded in the hood (6:55) and an inner hood release (7:19). Nearly 55% of the 1955 Chevrolet models were still on the road as of 1972 (7:44). A montage through the standard features follows this information including the turbo hyrda-matic transmission and the 400 cubic inch V8 engine (8:28). Three model types were available; the two-door hard top, four-door hard top, and the four-door sedan (8:48). This segment of the film ends and had been produced by the Bill Sandy Company Inc. The next segment is on the 1972 Chevrolet Impala (10:00). These are of the fifth generation of Chevrolet’s Impala’s and were produced during the model years of 1971 to 1976. It opens with a 747-jet plane using disk brakes which the 1972 Impala did as well (10:39). A ground test follows on these brakes and their water-resistant qualities authenticated by the Nationwide Consumer Testing Institute (10:52). Another test is conducted on the variable power steering wheel (12:11) which demonstrates their assistance in turning and parking (12:11). Scales are shown which record the weight at each wheel for even distribution (12:56). Other features include the coil springs and independent front suspension (13:32). For sound insulation, the roof was of a double paneled construction (13:56) with an acoustically perforated headliner, layers of sound insulation materials were installed (14:04) and a sound deadener was sprayed on all metal parts (14:08). These were also equipped with increased bumper protection and the same demonstration as the first segment is given (14:44). The inner fenders (15:26), side guard door beams and steel cargo guard (15:40) precede a test at the Safety Research Development center on the side guard beam to prove its added advantage of occupant safety (15:52). This battery also had side mountings and was sealed to prevent corrosion (16:20). This segment concludes with another look through at the features (17:57) and had been produced by the Bill Sandy Company Inc. also for sales personnel (18:38).
