This short newsreel shows the U.S. Navy varsity crew team on the Hudson River defeating eight other teams to win the college championship race. At :53 is a shot of people watching the race on a moving New Haven Railroad train, which was a common aspect of the races in this era. The race took place at Poughkeepsie, New York. It’s unclear which year this film shows, possibly 1938 or more likely 1931. (Other footage on the internet from 1938 seems to show a large warship present in the river which does not appear in this footage.)
