This silent, commercially produced “Travelette” movie shows the 1946 Rose Parade, the first parade since 1941, and the first post-WWII parade. It had a fitting theme — Victory, Unity and Peace. The Grand Marshall this year was Admiral Frederick Halsey (1:00) who led the U.S. Navy to victory in the Pacific in WWII. Highlight floats are Mexico (1:20), City of Los Angeles (1:46), San Francisco (2:21), L.A. Times (2:40), the American Legion float featuring the Iwo Jima Flag Raising (2:44), Monterey Park “Mr & Mrs. America” (4:24), Victory (5:20), Long Beach (6:25), a Lincoln themed float (13:32) with what appear to be African Americans dressed as slaves or sharecroppers, and more.
At 10:41 the parade is over and some of the award winning floats are shown in detail.
