XD10674a “T.R.” HIMSELF 1920s PRESIDENT TEDDY ROOSEVELT TRIBUTE FILM (SILENT)

Released in the 1920s as part of Kodak’s Kodascope Library, this film “T.R. Himself” shows highlights from Teddy Roosevelt’s life and political career. At :21 it shows T.R.’s Birthplace at 28 E 20th St, New York, NY 10003. At 1:26 historic footage shot between 1905 and 1918 of Colonel Roosevelt is shown. At 1:46 the dome of the Capitol Building in the early 1910s is shown. At 1:54 T.R.’s inaugural address is shown and at 2:07 the Russo-Japanese Peace delegates arrive in Portsmouth. At 2:25 the Roosevelt Dam is shown being dedicated. At 3:00, T.R. is shown after being nominated and at 3:27 campaigning from a train car. At 4:00 Roosevelt urges Americans to prepare to be involved in the European war. At 5:00 Roosevelt shakes hands with members of the public who are urging him to run again for President. At 5:14 Roosevelt volunteers for military service in WWI. At 5:44 the President is seen speaking to large crowds about the war and Liberty Loan. At 6:33 is the last known motion picture taken of Roosevelt on Sept. 6th, 1918 at the Lafayette Day celebration at New York’s City Hall. The film ends at 7:00 with images from T.R.’s funeral.

Theodore Roosevelt Jr. (October 27, 1858 – January 6, 1919) was an American statesman, politician, conservationist, naturalist, and writer who served as the 26th president of the United States from 1901 to 1909. He served as the 25th vice president from March to September 1901 and as the 33rd governor of New York from 1899 to 1900. As a leader of the Republican Party, he became a driving force for the Progressive Era in the United States in the early 20th century. His face is depicted on Mount Rushmore alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln. He is generally ranked in polls of historians and political scientists as one of the five best presidents.
