XD10384 1940s TRIP ON PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE DAIRY QUEEN WASHINGTON D.C. NEW YORK CITY

This silent home movie dates to the 1940s. One of the highlights includes shots of an original Dairy Queen softserve ice cream parlor at :37. At 1:54 are driving POV shots and at 1:58 shots of a suspension bridge. At 2:10 highway traffic is seen and at 2:30 a Pennzoil highway sign. A sign at 2:10 indicates this is near the town of West View, Pennsylvania in Allegheny County. At 2:57 a Ralston Purina truck passes by. This is most likely on the Pennsylvania Turnpike or New Jersey Turnpike. At 3:05 a large factory building is shown with a sign that appears to read “Staedard”. At 3:23 a 1940s sedan sits by the highway. At 4:11 a building marked New Baltimore, probably located in New York State, is shown. At 4;20 more traffic is shown on a large, divided section of highway. At 4:48 the car’s auto compass is visible on the windscreen. At 4:57 one of the Pennsylvania Turnpike portals is seen — probably the Allegheny tunnel. At 5:27 the Kittatinny Mountain Tunnel is seen. At 5:59 a large building is shown at Arlington National Cemetery. At 6:05 a soldier marches in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. At 6:41 are shots out of the top of the Washington Monument. At 8:08 a large rose garden is shown. At 9:00 are shots of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor. At 9:15, panning shots of New York City from a great distance. At 10:11 a large ocean liner cruises past. At 10:17 are shots from the Empire State Building of Manhattan. At 10:47 the RMS Queen Elizabeth is shown at dock in New York City. At 11:03 lumber is seen floating on a river. At 11:29 and following are shots of Niagara Falls. At 12:45 a cable car transits the river near the falls. The film ends with a sunset at 13:40 and shots of flowers being cultivated at 14:00.

Dairy Queen (DQ) is an American chain of soft serve ice cream and fast-food restaurants owned by International Dairy Queen, Inc., a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. International Dairy Queen, Inc., also owns Orange Julius and Karmelkorn.

The first DQ restaurant was located in Joliet, Illinois. It was operated by Sherb Noble and opened for business on June 22, 1940. It served a variety of frozen products, such as soft serve ice cream
