This black & white educational driver safety film is about how to drive on America’s new, post-war highways / freeways and on multi lane roads. No copyright but this is circa the early 1950s.

Opening titles: Multiple Lane Traffic, produced by Progressive Pictures (:09-:27). The old days, a car drives 25mph on a country road. Faster automobiles on a highway. Narrow 2 lane roads are going by the wayside and now turnpikes, freeways, highways and parkways that have multiple lanes are becoming the norm. Cars drive down a freeway. Car crash. Body on a gurney. A body is covered by a sheet in a hospital and a lady cries. Another victim on a stretcher. Wrecked car yard. A car goes fast down a street (:28-2:44). Diagram shows that at 60mph a car needs 336 feet to fully stop. Multi lane travel. Four Rules to follow on a multi-lane road: change lanes with caution, keep a safe distance, keep in step, be courteous. How to change lanes is shown and discussed. Diagram of cars. Speeds and distance are explained when it comes to changing lanes. Slower cars should stay in the right lane. How to exit from a highway on a right lane is shown (2:44-5:53). An overpass has a car on it going left. Extreme caution for making a left turn on a highway. Cars backed up trying to make a left turn. A car is shown trying to make a left under fast, busy conditions. A driver has his arm out the window showing he’ making a left. Merging traffic sign means slow down and proceed with caution

(5:54-8:00). Cars on a four lane highway. Merging traffic at night, all cars drive and have their lights on. Merging traffic in the day. Cars travel down a freeway. On a long uninterrupted straight away, you must pay attention to your speeds. A car pulls into a restaurant. A man exits and stretches out. Cars up a grade. Cars come down a grade, a truck brakes and a car gets close. Where a freeway ends into a regular road is very dangerous (8:01-11:34). Through the windshield on a hill. Cars drive through wet roads. Fog is thick and heavy while driving. Cars windshield wipers are on. Night driving through the windshield. A driver stops as another man is working on his car on the shoulder. SIgns on the road in the city: One Way, No U Turn, No right turn, no left turn, do not enter. Multi lane streets in the city shown and explained. Tow Away Zone No Stopping sign. Cars drive down a multi lane city road. A car turns on a street. A car turns left very slowly (11:35-14:25). Cars race down a highway. A review of the rules: change lanes with caution, keep a safe distance, keep in step, be courteous. Cars show each of the rules played out. Speed is bad as a car speeds and is pulled over by the police (14:26-15:44). End credits (15:45-15:52).
