The JD 860 Scraper is a short promotional film from John Deere, touting the features of the “money-saving” JD 860 Scraper, which John Deere released in 1969. The film opens with a pristine JD 860 (00:44) before cutting to the JD 860 in action (01:15). The elevating scrapper with its 215-net flywheel horsepower diesel engine has a 37,500-cubic foot capacity, maximizing time on the job. The film reviews a number of features designed to contribute to the scraper’s performance and high output. The controls (02:20), gauges, and fuses are placed for ease of access. The bottom panel drops down to form a step (03:08), while the top panel opens upward to reveal part of the engine and the dip stick. The all-hydraulic elevated scrapper is designed to move material at a lower cost than other scrapers. It is self-loading, so no pusher is needed. The JD 860 is also designed with the comfort of the operator in mind, as the seat is foam-padded, suspended on cushion of air, and positioned so the operator can easily watch the cutting while operating the controls.
