58454 1936 AMERICAN TOURISTS’ TRAIN TRIP TO MEXICO CITY & EL PASO, TEXAS BULLFIGHT

This silent, black & white and early color home movie film shows a group of American tourists visiting Northern Mexico, Mexico City and El Paso, Texas. This was made in 1936.

Opening titles: Our Mexico Trip starts by visiting Jack and Marion Kelly (:09). Cars pass by; people (:17). At a train station (:33) a N de M / Norte de Mexico steam engine idles. Outside of the Palace of Fine Arts / Palacio de Bellas Artes, a beautiful building in Mexico City (1:00). Hustle and bustle of city life in Mexico City (1:30). At 1:31 a sign for Cerveza XX is seen, and at 1:37 trolley cars are visible. Two women stand and get filmed (2:10), behind them is the Mexico City cathedral and the Zocalo, the historic center of the city. A man and a woman walk arm and arm (2:41) in front of the Palacio Nacional. Downtown Mexico City (3:00). Woman and men, with their arms around one another, joke around (3:29). Men and women stand around and clown around (4:32). Title: We Also attended a bullfight seeing three bulls killed (4:52). Bullfighting with a matador and a bull (4:58). A dead bull is pulled way by two horses (5:43). Bullfighting continues (5:53). Title: “Here we are never to forget Monday, October 26th, 1936” (6:03). Women walk around, speak to a Mexican woman (6:10) who demonstrates the technique of how to make a tortilla. Women and men stand in a row (6:45). A man takes a drink while standing next to a woman who holds a parrot (7:40). Tourists wear sombreros, put on serapes and do the Mexican Hat Dance (8:25). A woman shakes hands with some men (9:09). A man drinks straight from the bottle; a man clowns around; people clap and dance (9:41). Mexican desert (10:56). Train station (11:19) and N de M steam engine in what appears to be the arid area of Northern Mexico. Title: After we crossed El Paso, Texas on our way home (11:36). Downtown El Paso, Texas (11:43). The group exits a horse and wagon taxi or herdic (12:14). Interesting building in El Paso, looks like a large arena or auditorium (12:24). Building, probably El Paso High School. At (13:30) are shots filmed behind a fence (12:45), possibly a detention center or isolation ward of a hospital / sanitorium. People walk behind the fence; women and children (13:26). A nurse leads a child by the hand behind the fence (14:06). On a river; going down the river (14:26). Women and men get into a canoe (15:00). A girl shows off some fish that were caught (15:05). Children run around (15:33). A child dances as adults walk around (15:52).
