54264 1960s SOVIET FILM EGYPT OUR ARAB ALLY NASSER ERA Part 2 of 2 SUEZ CANAL & CAIRO

Made in the 1960s when Egypt grew close to the Soviet Union as an ally, this documentary film starts with images of some of the dams and hydroelectric power projects made possibly through the alliance. At :40, the famous Egyptian cotton and textile industry is seen, as well as images of industrialization. Agriculture is seen, followed at 1;16 by a large electric power plant, modern food processing plants, and an oil refinery. A steel plant is seen at 2:47 with shipbuilding also shown at Alexandria. At 3:50, a variety of aircraft are seen landing at Cairo’s International Airport, and at 4:00, modern Cairo is seen with buildings along the nile. At 4:30, an old trolley car rumbles down a modern boulevard, and donkeys are seen in streets with modern cars. At 4:50 a fountain with a statue of Ramses is seen. Handicrafts are seen at 5:40 including hieroglyphic pieces aimed at tourists. King Tut is seen in the Cairo Museum.

At 6:36, the Suez Crisis is shown, with British and French troops seizing the Suez Canal and destroying elements of the Egyptian Army. A grieving civilian is seen amidst images of destruction. at 7;18, the Israeli border is seen. At 7:40, images of Palestinians are seen. At 7:50, Egyptians are seen benefitting from modern machinery given to them by the Soviet Union.
