22074 1960s OCEANOGRAPHY EDUCATIONAL FILM “WHAT’S UNDER THE OCEAN”

Made in 1960, this educational film shows the efforts in this era used to explore the underwater world. Compressed air SCUBA tanks and gear are seen at the 1:00 mark. The bathyscaphe Trieste, operated by the Navy’s Electronic Laboratory is shown at the 3:30 mark, and its principles of operation shown. The Scripps Oceanographic Institution’s ship Horizon is shown at the 7:00 mark, and Echo sounders and clam-jawed buckets are shown at work.
